SNEGITHAN - A FRIEND FOR DISABLED

U think Shock, depression, grief, agony, misery, frustration and anxiety is what a physically challenged would feel ? U think, brood, curse, weep and get doomed is what they do ?? Noooooo. Here is an example folk who proves it WRONG !

Arogiyadoss, a differentially abled, determined man with a vision. He has come a long way in the path of social life and today he runs an institution called 'Snegithan', catering to needs of physically challenged in terms of business, medical, educational and counseling support.

Doss, as he is fondly called, was on the streets, with hardly a meal for the day. His mother managed to get a meal for them everyday. Frustrated and cursing themselves the family led their life. Doss, knew that is not what he wanted out of life. He wanted to support his mother in spite of his disability. He had the determination.

One day, He happened to notice a board that said 'ECOMWEL' - Institution for the deprived. He knocked and met Mr. Narayanan. Mr.Narayanan could see the vigor in his eyes, but with both hands and legs crippled, he asked Doss, what work he could do. 'Doss said give me any job, I will do my best'. Narayanan said "Ok, I will give you the office key, see if you can open the door!" Though he took time, Doss was able to open the door in spite of his disability in the hand. Narayanan, appointed him. From then on, Doss started involving in activities of ECOMWEL. He used to go to villages, meet differentially able people and hear their stories, and provide moral support.

Narayanan, knew he had a greater potential than just being a worker. He and his friends encouraged Doss, to start an institution for differentially abled. Snegithan is 1.5 yrs old, supporting poor challenged people in terms of medical, business, educational and counseling support. He moves around with a motorized wheel chair. Its worth mentioning that the doctors itself had an apprehension whether he could drive. Today he drives to the remotest places and reaches out to the deserving.

Hats off to his mother for the continued care provided. Doss, recently married, has 2 twin daughters, 6 months old.

Nothing deters him from this continual service for last 7 years. He says he has a dream to have a home for differentially able, a workshop training unit for them. A DREAM WHICH WILL COME TRUE …

Food for Thought...

It's good to have money and the things money can buy,
but it's good, too, to check up once in a while and make
sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy.
