I had gone to meet one of my friends who was volunteeting for a leading NGO. There was a meeting organised to plan out a science mela for the corportaion school children.

Just few houses away, found a young college student teaching on the open terrace on a bright sunset eve. I walked to him on the way back and had a chat.

He was a BSc Maths 2nd yr college student, used to spend 4-5 hrs a week teaching maths to poor students in his neighbourhood.

He felt this was the smallest activity from his end. Truly a BIG Initiative.

INITIATIVE MATTERS

Meet Swarna & Rakshit, guys from a leading software company in Chennai. They were modest enough to say they didnt do anything great. Yaatra, recognizes the initiative and drive that individuals have and appreciates them with the notion that some one some where might get inspired reading this story.

This group initiated by Swarna, used to collect funds and donate to needy organisations. Not satisified with the approach, they planned to take it up further. They decided to spend time and money, they started visiting nearby orphanage, spending time with the children, festive celebrations, help on basic needs and so on. It soon developed into a regular weekend activity.

Swarna and team also supported in their own way during the Tsunami, sponsoring affected school children with educational materials. Their team shares a strong emotional attachment with the deprived kids.

Swarna and team surely want to do more. Initiatives from such young minds builds our confidence more and more.

Food for Thought...

It's good to have money and the things money can buy,
but it's good, too, to check up once in a while and make
sure you haven't lost the things that money can't buy.
