Busy weekday peak hour, people buzzing to catch suburb trains in a nearby railway station. Needless to say, the pull and push in the station.

Midst of this crowd, I found one middle aged person taking time for the begging old people. I continued to watch him. He was clear about whom he should help and who not. He placed few coins to 3 of the elderly women lying in the station.

Then he got lost in the crowd and I saw him running to catch the fast that came in. I noticed him couple of occasions. He said, I cant do anything more, just this small help from my end daily, might help for a meal.

Well, he surely had a soft corner for the needy, in his own way, which he felt was right !!!

CARE FOR THE DELINQUENT


Love for children and Adoption became the reason for her to promote a voluntary initiative for Adoptive Families. A deep sense of responsibility towards the society and the capacity to cause a change catalyzed Relief Foundation, to promote the Social Action towards deprived and distressed children.

In 2001, Vidya Shankar, Chairperson of Relief Foundation, was appointed Chairperson of the Juvenile Welfare Board in Chennai, and in 2002, she became a member of the Juvenile Justice Board. Her growing involvement in the Juvenile Justice System helped Relief Foundation to better understand the reasons of juvenile delinquency and criminality and to develop new preventative projects.

Acting as the central hub of a network of government organizations, other NGOs, schools, donors and volunteers, they mobilize a wide range of different resources for the improvement of the children’s life.

Relief Foundation is responsible for the co-management of Chennai's 3 government homes. They are part of Juvenile Justice, promoting education, supporting balwadis, training for teachers.

Relief works closely with deliquent children, Sharing responsibilities for medical support for children in the Govt. Homes, and tracing missing children's families, a whole range of experience on the needs of children and reasons for their problems including delinquency. .


Their main focus is on, Improvement of the situation of children who are in contact with the Juvenile Justice System and Improving Education in preprimary and primary levels for children as a major step towards prevention of juvenile delinquency. .
