we were conducting moral value sessions for few deprived students in the age group of 10-15. We were having an extempore session.

We were trying to explain the students that each one of them can help people in some small way or the other.

When this boy's turn came, we were pleased to hear what he said. He in fact has been identifying needs in his area as and when possible and writing to NGO for help.

A Perfect example for people who say, I dont know what to do, how to help, I dont have money, etc..

SILENTLY DOING HIS BIT FOR SOCIETY

The Great Mahatma had once said- “You must be the change you wish to see in this world.” These words hold immense value in today’s world when each of us needs to take the initiative to develop the nation instead of blaming the society or the government. There are very few living models who have followed Gandhiji’s words- J. Prabhakar is one such individual.

He is around 50 years, serves as a role model for today’s youth. For a person who believes age is just a number, the energy and level of excitement he carries along with him is highly contagious.

Prabhakar was bestowed with the gift of the brush at a very young age. His artistic skills earned him instant recognition and praise from connoisseurs of art. However unlike others, he did not use this skill to improve his financial position- instead he used it to build much needed contacts required to start an NGO. A totally selfless person, he has spent the last two years contacting more than 200 organizations. Having paid a personal visit to most of these organizations, he has successfully compiled a booklet of information on 50 such organizations.

His success in NGO networking goaded him in the direction of spearheading a similar trust. He is currently doing a course in NGO management and wishes to revisit all the NGO organizations and support them in the best possible manner. As John F Kennedy once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for the country.” Mr. Prabhakar is one person who is silently doing his bit for the society without expecting anything in return. The least we can do is to encourage such individuals and let them know that their contribution to the society is not going unnoticed.

Mr Prabakhar can be reached at D-4, VSV Apartments, No 10, 5th Cross Street, Trustpuram, Kodambakkam, Chennai - 600 024, ph : 044-23721317.

Food for Thought...

Believing is one thing, doing another. Many talk like the sea but their lives are stagnant marshes. Others raise their heads above the mountain tops, while their soul cling to the dark walls of caves.
